Nine rescued from burning boat

The Coast Guard said nine people who were aboard a burning boat off Fernandina Beach, Fla., are now all back on land, without injuries.

According to Coast Guard Petty Officer Chris Evanson, the boat and nine passengers were towed into the Fernandina Harbor Marina late Monday evening. Seven adults and two children were aboard.

Capt. Benny Hendrix said he took some of his friends fishing because they had the day off from work. He said they went about 65 miles off shore on the charterboat Heavy Hitter.

"They went out offshore fishing to pick up some wahoo and tuna and they did very well on their trip," said Capt. Steve Hair, who helped rescue the boat. "Of course, the fish almost got cooked before they got home."
