One of the exhibitors at the upcoming Norwalk (Conn.) Boat Show says a common misperception he comes across when meeting inexperienced boaters at shows is mistakenly comparing boat construction to automotive or home construction.
"We run into this a lot," said Kevin Burns, vice president of design and product development for two Maine-based companies — Sabre Yachts and Back Cove Yachts, which will be among the show's nearly 200 exhibitors. "Boats are their own special things," he told the Connecticut Post, noting that elements such as hydrodynamics and the boat's purpose will drive the design. "That concept of form following function is never more evident than it is in a boat's hull. We always approach a project as a boat first, and that informs everything else."
