A 1950s-era commercial fishing boat in North Carolina, owned by one of Pamlico County's most storied captains, was designated for the National Register of Historic Places.
The boat, the Edna G, was owned by the late Earl Holton, until 1974 and later sank off in 1988 off Gloucester, Mass. The shipwreck - in 300 feet of water - was discovered in 2003 in the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary off the Massachusetts coast.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration plans an official announcement next month.
When a boat was lost, his daughter said he always had one response: "Don't worry about the boat. Make sure the men are alright."
