Ocean racers to hold Web chats at sea

Fans of the Velux 5 Oceans solo sail race around the world will get another chance to ask their favorite skippers questions in the latest round of Web chats - this time on camera.

After the success of the last series of Web chats in Punta del Este before the start of ocean sprint leg four, the Web chats will now go one step better with the skippers answering questions live on webcam. Each of the four Velux 5 Oceans skippers will chat with fans for 30 minutes in the lead up to the final sprint of The Ultimate Solo Challenge across the North Atlantic from Charleston, S.C., to the finish at La Rochelle, France.

The Web chats will take place on May 10-11, and will be hosted on the Eco 60 class website.

Here's a timetable for the chats:

  • Brad Van Liew: 1 p.m. May 10,
  • Derek Hatfield: 1:30 p.m. May 10
  • Chris Stanmore-Major: 1 p.m. May 11
  • Zbigniew 'Gutek' Gutkowski: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday May 11

Web chats for Brad Van Liew, Derek Hatfield and Chris Stanmore-Major will be in English. Gutek's chat will take place in Polish for the first 20 minutes and English for the last 10 minutes.

Anyone wanting to take part in the chats should go to the Eco 60 class website at the times specified above. You will then be able to connect direct to the Web chat.
