Old salts show survival grit

Two elderly boaters - one 72, the other 82 - survived separate boating accidents on opposite ends of the country.

In New Orleans, a 72-year-old man who had been missing for 16 hours since his boat capsized on Lake Pontchartrain was found alive and mildly hypothermic in the water five miles from shore.

In Lodi, Calif., an 82-year-old man whose 18-foot boat capsized on the San Joaquin River was rescued by his life jacket and a good Samaritan, according to the U.S. Coast Guard, which credited the man's decision to wear a PFD as a lifesaving one.
