The body of missing boater Anthony Coffey, 29, was discovered about eight miles west of Hudson Beach, near Tampa, Fla., on Tuesday, authorities said.
Coffey’s body was discovered around 3 p.m. Tuesday, about four hours after his cousin, William Coffey, 17, was found clinging to a life jacket and suffering from severe hypothermia, said Baryl Martin, public information officer with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, told Tampa Bay Online.
Their 29-foot fishing boat, called Miss Melody, had not been recovered Tuesday afternoon, Martin said.
“At this point, we’re still conducting an investigation with the Coast Guard,” Martin said. “Until the results of the investigation are concluded, I’m not able to say what, if anything, could have been done to prevent this tragedy.”
