Opinion: Man may be edged out by technology

Ever since the first America's Cup race in 1851, the participating vessels have been examples of the technological innovations of the time.

However, these technological advances could well be the swan song for the America's Cup as it's been known for the last 160 years. The two most recent competitors, America's BMW Oracle and Alinghi of Switzerland, both incorporated more technology than the predecessors of at least 50 years.
