Edson International has published its first Powerboat Products Catalog in five years, and the marine supplier says it’s the largest assortment of products offered in the company’s 145-year history.
The catalog includes all of Edson’s powerboat-related items, including steering systems and wheels, radar and electronics mounting hardware, dinghy davits and handling equipment, pumps and pump-out systems, and other accessories. New products this year include the Visions Series of instrument housings, stainless steel and teak-rimmed wheels, and new models in the company’s popular PowerKnob line. Edson says the 2004 version of the catalog is the 12th powerboat product guide it has published.
Considered one of the oldest, continuously operating companies in Massachusetts, New Bedford-based Edson this year celebrates its 145th anniversary. Founded in 1859 in Boston by Jacob Edson, the company originally manufactured diaphragm pumps and specialty hardware for the commercial marine trade. The company’s diaphragm pumps first were used in sewage pumping applications, resulting in the original horse-drawn “honey wagon.” Early innovations in the marine field included a “boom buffer” to reduce the shock of a gybing sailboat, as well as hardware and steering systems for fishing fleets, coastal schooners and cargo vessels. In 1956, Edson was purchased by the Keene family, which still owns the firm.
