JUNE 21 —BoatU.S. has developed a free 12-page guide to help boaters prepare their vessel against the hazards associated with hurricane season.
The guide, called “Preparing Boats and Marinas for Hurricanes,” presents information and tips based on four decades-worth of first-hand experiences of boaters and marinas preparing boats for severe wind, waves, rain, and storm surges, the association says in a news release. The guide includes a step-by-step storm preparation checklist to help owners prepare their boats.
The guide details the causes, types and prevention of hurricane damage to boats, the release says. Some topics include preparing boats that are kept at docks, on boat lifts, in canals, on moorings and on trailers.
The “Preparing Boats and Marinas for Hurricanes” guide book can be picked up at any West Marine store, according to the release. For a downloadable version, click here.
