The public is invited to launch this year's boating season along with Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum members, volunteers, and boatyard staff to welcome back the boating season with an official ceremony to bless and honor the museum’s floating fleet of historic Bay boats, as well as local work boats.

On-land participants will meet at 4:30 p.m. on April 17 under the 1879 Hooper Strait Lighthouse, which overlooks the Miles River at the museum. Boaters are invited to pull up near the lighthouse, with docking for the ceremony based on limited availability.

A Navy Band bugler and vocalist will be leading the ceremony. The blessing will be performed by the Rev. Kevin M. Cross of The Church of the Holy Trinity in Oxford, Md.

The event is free, with reservations needed by contacting Debbie Collison at dcollison@cbmm.org or at (410) 745-4991. For event docking availability, contact René Stevenson at rstevenson@cbmm.org or at (410) 745-4950.
