Race on to save stranded yacht couple
A cruising couple reported they were 'tired and scared' on their damaged and sinking sailing yacht 780 miles off New Zealand.
Two commercial vessels have arrived alongside a damaged and sinking yacht south of Tonga, and an attempt to rescue the two occupants — one a Kiwi, one a transplanted Brit — may finally happen after a delay by weather.
Rescuers were racing to save the pair after their sinking yacht rolled in 30-foot seas off during a home-coming voyage to Auckland.
The couple, 43 and 52 years old, were still facing high seas and 46 mile-per-hour winds last night on board their severely damaged 38-foot yacht, Windigo.
