Racing yacht runs low on food

The skipper of the racing yacht Abu Dhabi has ordered rations to be imposed because of dwindling food supplies on the sixth leg of the Volvo Ocean Race.

With around a week's sailing still to go until they reach Miami, Ian Walker's team were facing the reality of several days with little food at the end of the leg, which is taking longer to complete than expected due to light winds in the Atlantic Ocean.

"This is in no small part due to the fact we cut everything right back to keep the boat light for the downwind sailing,” said Walker. “"We'll just have to be a bit hungry for the last couple of days."
