Range of topics slated for women's sailing convention

The West Coast's premier sailing education event for women is set to launch on Feb. 1 at the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club in Corona del Mar, Calif.

The 25th annual Women's Sailing Convention is presented by the Southern California Yachting Association and sponsored by BoatUS.

The event is open to all women from novices to experts, day sailors to racers. The 2014 Convention maintains a multi-workshop format — attendees may select a combination of topics such as: Welcome Aboard (for beginners), Diesels, Going Up the Mast, Introduction to Racing, Tactics, Docking, Overboard Procedures, Suddenly Singlehanded Interactive, Weather, Sail Trim, Basic Navigation, Maintenance Mania, DIY Canvas Projects, How to Heave a Line, Nighttime Sailing & Navigation, Hassel-Free Heads, Spinnaker Rigging, Offshore Cruising, and Introduction to Sailing.

Top women sailors from all over Southern California, many of whom are Coast Guard-licensed captains, will present all 30 of the workshops.
