Renowned fisherman's final project now part of museum

Even during his final years, renowned North Carolina fishing Capt. Merritt O. Watson Sr. dreamed of taking his boat, the Watson II, out for one last oystering trip.

But that never happened and he died in 2009 at the age of 96.

Still, the 35-foot shrimp boat will help preserve his legacy as an outdoor artifact at the Pamlico County Heritage Center.
