Rescued, overboard again

Rockaway Beach, N.Y.
A 45-year-old man was rescued from the water near Breezy Point at Rockaway Beach by Coast Guard rescuers after his pleasure boat capsized. Initially he was rescued by a good Samaritan, but jumped back into the water to retrieve personal items from the boat. The man was fishing near an area with shoals, the Coast Guard reported. The man’s boat drifted into the surf line and was flipped by a 6-foot wave. He managed to get out from under the boat and stood on the hull where a good Samaritan picked him up. He later declined medical assistance and was brought to Sheepshead Bay by the Coast Guard. The righted boat was also towed to Sheepshead Bay. Weather on scene was reported as 10-mph winds and 1- to 2-foot seas. (July 18)
