Restored PT boat turns heads on the water
Capt. Tom Whyte sounded the whistle, then cut the engine and glided PT-728 into a slip at the marina by Battery Park City.
In a half-hour ride down the Hudson River on Friday, no enemy craft had taken aim at this 65-year-old vessel on its way to an air show on Long Island. Passing tour boats fired no shots across the bow. The 20-millimeter antiaircraft gun on the deck remained silent.
Of some 800 PT boats made, only 12 are left, and this one is the only fully restored PT boat still afloat.
