Rev. Moon set to unveil new sportfishing boat

The Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon of Korea, the controversial religious and social leader honored by millions of followers, known as “moonies,” as a prophet and peacemaker, is also a mass wedding convener, newspaper publisher and fisherman. On Thursday, he will add a new credential to his résumé: boat designer.

The 91-year-old Moon has reportedly tinkered for years with new designs of fishing boats built by his company, Master Marine Yacht Building Co., and on Thursday morning he will unveil the prototype of his newly created 23-foot sportfishing boat, according to a statement from Wo Mo Boat.

The new boat, which will be built and sold in Las Vegas, is the product of a “negative NC resin mold” that the builder claims allows it to move through water at 45 knots.

At a dedication ceremony this week, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moo, Moon's spouse, will deliver the keynote address, and later she and Moon will test drive the Won Mo on Lake Mead.

“Rev. Moon has supported boatbuilding since he supervised the manufacture of his first fishing boat in the 1960s. He continued through the 1970s with manufacturing facilities in Alabama, New Jersey and North Carolina,” according to a statement. “Since 2008, he has been focusing on recreational opportunities on Lake Mead. The Won Mo Boat is believed to be taking the small-boat industry to a whole new level and will greatly enhance sportfishing and commercial fishing, according to Master Marine representatives. As he has explained frequently to members of his worldwide congregation, Rev. Moon's vision for the maritime industry encompasses feeding the world through the oceans and enjoying the tranquility of the lakes, rivers and seas to rejuvenate the human spirit.”
