Sail race across the North Atlantic produces a record

The world's biggest sailing trimaran has covered 2,921 nautical miles between New York City and England’s Lizard Point, in 3 days, 15 hours, 25 minutes and 48 seconds, at the average speed of 32.94 knots.

Pascal Bidégorry and his French crew of the maxi-trimaran Banque Populaire became part of legend and added their names on the list of the fastest sailors of the world by beating the previous record by 12 hours 32 minutes and six seconds, held by Franck Cammas since 2007.

The record requires validation from the WSSRC (World Sailing Speed Record Council).
