A 1-ton anchor hidden in brush for 25 years is creating a stir in Portsmouth, N.H., after a group of volunteers stumbled upon it while cleaning outside.
The anchor was found next to the USS Albacore, an experimental submarine commissioned in 1953 that now serves as a museum, according to a WMUR.com report.
The anchor, which is the size of small car, was hidden in the weeds just off the bow. It was dredged from the Piscataqua River more than 25 years ago and donated to the museum when the Albacore was moved from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard to its new home. Since the anchor didn't really fit in, the weeds just grew up around it.
