Stolen sailboat homeward bound

A man whose 57-foot Beneteau was stolen from its Charleston, S.C., dock in January finally got back aboard his sailboat in May.

Owner Glen McIntosh, an Atlanta oral surgeon, and several friends sailed Latitude Adjustment III into Charleston City Marina May 18 some 500 miles from Freeport, Bahamas, where the boat was recovered Jan. 28.

“I never even thought about a security system for this boat because you never hear about them being stolen … but I am now,” McIntosh told The Post and Courier newspaper. The blue-hulled vessel, one of only 35 built and the only one in the United States, is valued at $750,000. The boat reportedly sustained minor damage to the battens and mainsail.

Two Florida men were arrested in connection with the theft.
