Storm ravages boats at N.Y. vacation spot

The totality of Tropical Storm Irene's impact on Lake George's boats remains unclear.

High winds, and the resulting rough waters, drove many tethered boats to the bottom, while others broke free and went adrift.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation and the Lake George Park Commission are scouring the lake for adrift or sunken vessels.

The state is reporting that 20 boats were swamped or driven to the bottom during the gale.
