Stuck-boats' owner seeks time extension

The owner of two boats that have run aground beside the Pineda Causeway plans to ask a judge for more time to get the vessels floating again.

Facing derelict vessel charges, Paul Baumann, 65, of Palm Shores convinced Circuit Court Judge A.B. Majeed on Dec. 14 that he was making progress. Majeed granted Baumann extra time — until February — to salvage his boats.

“I’m going to court again and ask the judge for another full moon,” said Baumann, who is due in a Viera courtroom today. “I’ll get it done, that’s my life out there.”

During an unnamed storm in October, the 52-foot trawler “Joysea” was pushed onto the western shore of the Indian River, and the 27-foot Windsong sailboat “Tequesta” is on its side close by.
