JUNE 5 -- Sailors from all over the world are invited to participate in the sixth annual Summer Sailstice scheduled for June 17 and 18, the weekend closest to the solstice.
What its organizers call “the largest international celebration of all things sailing,” the Summer Sailstice allows sailors to sail locally with friends and family but to celebrate in spirit with other sailors from at least 48 states and 12 countries, according to the event Web site . Sailors also use the Summer Sailstice as an excuse to organize their own summer sailing event, organizers say.
Those who sign up for the 2006 celebration will also be eligible to win one of more than 200 prizes, according to the Web site. Some prizes include a one-week charter in the BVI from the Moorings, a Hunter Xcite sailboat and a Hobie kayak.
Sailors can visit the event Web site to register, post their sailing plans, create and host a Summer Sailstice party or event and find crew. Registration is free.
