AUG. 13 - A recent study finds that boating ranks third in a list of stress-relieving activities — right behind road trips and exercise.
The study, prepared by the National Marine Manufacturing Association, found that Americans consider relaxing with family and friends, fishing, cruising and water skiing the most popular boat-related activities, a news report says.
“When you step into a boat, you leave the world of what you have to do [for] a world of what you want to do,” Steve Tadd of the NMMA says in the news report. “We know that 90 percent of Americans live less than an hour away from a navigable body of water, making the boating lifestyle accessible no matter what part of the country you live in.”
A total of 1,061 American households were surveyed, according to the news report. Half of the respondents say the best thing about boating is spending time in the outdoors. Twenty-five-percent of respondents say the best thing is that it offers an escape from daily life.
