Teen solo sailors chart different courses

A publicist for Californian teen sailor Abby Sunderland reports the 16-year-old has safely arrived in Cape Town, South Africa, to make repairs to her vessel before heading back out to sea to finish her solo circumnavigation.

She is the youngest person to ever sail around Cape Horn, and although her non-stop, unassisted attempt is over, she plans on continuing her circumnavigation.

Meanwhile, Sunderland's Australian teen "rival," Jessica Watson is expected to complete her solo, unassisted non-stop sail around the globe sometime next week.

However, the 16-year-old could be denied formal recognition of being the youngest to circumnavigate the globe alone and unassisted. The reason, according to at least one marine publication, is that she did not sail far enough north of the equator to qualify for the record.
