Alex Ellison will return Aug. 31 to his childhood town and the Connecticut River Museum in Essex, Conn., to present his family’s remarkable sailing journey that encompassed five years and more than 25,000 nautical miles.
Now in high school, Alex was just 8 years old when he and his family set sail in 2003 from Essex and embarked on what they thought would be a one-year voyage. It went far beyond that and Alex sailed 25,000 nautical miles before the age of 15.
Upon their return, Alex chronicled the odyssey of his coming of age at sea in the recently released memoir, “A Star to Sail Her By.”
Starting at 5:30 p.m., he will share his story in a program to take place in the Museum’s Boathouse Gallery, with a book signing session and light refreshments to follow on the North Deck.
General admission is $5; Museum members are admitted free. The museum is located at 67 Main Street. For information on this or other programs, call (860)767-8269 or go to the museum’s website.
