The other end of the boating spectrum

The tagline on the cover of every issue of Soundings is "Real Boats, Real Boaters." Here are two examples of the opposite:

  • German billionaire Guido Krass, an eco-industrialist, is selling his superyacht for $85 million. The 241-foot yacht has a high fuel efficiency and can obtain a top speed of 27 knots, making it the fastest long-range yacht.

Its features include an open-air cinema, Jacuzzi, large sun pad, a state of the art sound system, sauna, and helipad.

  • SeaFair is the world's first mobile megayacht venue and at 228 feet is one of the largest private yachts in the United States.

The ship boasts three decks of international galleries, two outdoor bars, an international coffee bar, as well as a formal glass-walled restaurant and an open-air bistro on the Sky Deck.

The $40 million purpose-built exhibition yacht was designed by yacht designer Luiz de Basto and serves as a traveling art gallery.

This summer, ports of call will include Newport, R.I. (June 23-27 and June 30-July 4); Martha's Vineyard (July 14-18 and Aug. 18-22); and Greenwich, Conn., (Sept. 15-19).
