A good Samaritan and a Coast Guard boat crew rescued three people Tuesday from a capsized boat near East Pass offshore Destin, Fla.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Destin received a call at 12:55 p.m. that a 22-foot center console vessel capsized with three people aboard just outside of East Pass.
Station Destin launched a 45-foot response boat — Medium boatcrew and were on scene in fewer than 10 minutes.
Upon arrival, the good Samaritan recovered two of the three while the Coast Guard crew embarked the third person.
All three people were transported back to the station to awaiting emergency medical services personnel. EMS took all three to Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Medical Center, where one was treated for symptoms of shock.
“Because these mariners had their required safety gear and were wearing their life jackets, we were able to provide timely assistance and avoid a worse outcome,” said Lt. j.g. Bradley Parker, Coast Guard Sector Mobile.
