Tom Brady Orders a Bigger Yacht
Apparently, a 53-foot boat wasn’t big enough for Tom Brady, so he has upgraded to a 77-footer.
After two decades with the Patriots in New England, the NFL star decided he needed a boat when he moved to Tampa last year to play for the Bucs. "I live right here on this beautiful bay, Old Hillsborough Bay," Brady said about his new locale in Tampa Bay in an interview with the boatbuilder, Wajer. "The first thing I did when I got here, I said 'I need a boat.'"
Brady took delivery of a Wajer 55S last fall, but he’s decided he needs more boat so he can take his wife and three kids further afield. He wants more space for longer trips to the Caribbean, so he has ordered a Wajer 77.
The Wajer 55S is a 53-foot center console powered by triple 450-horsepower Volvo Penta diesel engines with a range of almost 450 nautical miles. It sleeps four people and has a top speed of 40 knots.
“The 55 is an amazing boat, it's been an amazing boat for our family,” Brady said. That 55 garnered some special attention earlier this year, after the Bucs won the Superbowl. Brady decided to throw the Lombardy Trophy from his boat to another, and although he completed the pass successfully, he later acknowledged it wasn’t his smartest decision. But he believes his latest boat purchase is a good choice.
“I think the 77 will be a little more suited for what we need down here, which is a few more day trips and weekend trips. We spend a lot of time in the Bahamas, so going from the east coast of Florida across into the Bahamas and around the Bahamas would be really great trips for us as a family. Our family loves to do some diving. The fact that, with the little bit bigger boat, for us, the 77 allows us to sleep overnight really comfortably. Those weekend trips will be great memories for our family for years to come.”
The 77 has four cabins with ensuite bathrooms and can accommodate nine people, including two crew. It is advertised to have a top speed of 37 knots and a 400 nautical mile range. It is Majer’s latest and largest model. Only time will tell if Brady decides to upgrade again if Majer builds an even bigger yacht down the line.
