Towboat manager helps widow with sunken yacht

When an elderly widow was overwhelmed by the 62-foot Huckins yacht sunk at her dock, the community of Pompano Beach, Fla., stepped in to help.

The local Fox affiliate, WSVN 7 News recently did a story on their "Help Me Howard" feature to help the homeowner with her plight.

When TowBoatU.S. Fort Lauderdale director of sales Barney Hauf saw the TV report, he formed a plan to help.

"We saw this as an opportunity to give back to the community that has embraced our company for over 20 years," Hauf said. The homeowner, the neighborhood, federal, state, county and local government could all benefit from any charitable effort we could mount."

A few phone calls prompted an overwhelmingly positive response from companies and individuals that were willing to help.
