Trader Publishing Co. of Norfolk, Va., has acquired PassageMaker, “The Trawler & Ocean Motorboat Magazine.” Based in Annapolis, Md., and now in its 10th year, PassageMaker joins Trader’s other marine titles, which include Soundings and Soundings Trade Only.
“We’re very excited at this opportunity,” says Bill Parlatore, PassageMaker editor in chief. “The horsepower of the Trader organization will allow us to grow in many worthwhile ways we’ve been looking to expand: in print, in our successful events, and on the Internet. This opens up a whole new world for us.”
Laurene Parlatore, the magazine’s publisher, echoes that sentiment. “I can’t be more thrilled to take our entire program to a higher level,” she says. “I see us exploring new technology and directions, and the synergy of this organization will create new benefits for the readers and industry. The future is right here, right now, and I’m very happy to be in the middle of it.”
The PassageMaker crew will remain at its Annapolis headquarters. “Our intent is to continue publishing PassageMaker with the existing team,” says James Causey, Trader vice president of consumer and industry magazines. “My hope is that Trader’s resources will allow us to assist and serve this rapidly growing and exciting sector of the marine market. PassageMaker has long been the bible for those interested in cruising under power, and now we look forward to being the major presence in the marine publishing field.”
Trader announced in late September the purchase of marine Web sites boats.com and YachtWorld.com, acquisitions that include the largest Internet marine search engine databases of boats for sale in the world.
Trader Publishing Co. publishes more than 700 print classified and photo guide magazines, including Boat Trader and Yacht Trader. The company is equally owned by Cox Enterprises Inc. and Landmark Communications Inc.
