Expedition-style trawler builder Nordhavn has moved into the large yacht market with its first 120-footer, which will be built in Xiamen, China.
Parent company Pacific Asian Enterprises announced the sale of its first Nordhavn 120, which has a scheduled delivery date of April 2012.
"Our 35 years of experience in designing and building over 800 oceangoing yachts has prepared us for this exciting moment," Pacific Asian president Dan Streech said in a statement.
The yacht will be named Aurora, and was commissioned by a three-time Nordhavn owner who previously owned 62-, 76- and 86-foot yachts, the company said.
"We are extremely proud of our association with PAE," Aurora's unnamed owner said in a statement. "It has been a fantastic company to do business with. Trips to the factories in Taiwan and China ... showed the commitment of their partners to provide an exceptional vessel without compromise."
Hull No. 1 is being built at Pacific Asian's new partner factory in Xiamen, China, which is designed to accommodate the N120 production line. Construction is expected to start in January.
Pacific Asian Enterprises builds Nordhavn semicustom fiberglass motoryachts with a 15-boat product line ranging from 40- to 120-feet.
