JAN. 5 — PassageMaker magazine’s 2006 Trawler Fest , an annual event that combines boat show elements with educational seminars on “all things trawler,” kicks off Jan. 26 at the Stuart Cay Marina in Stuart, Fla.

A sampling of the many seminars to be held Jan. 26 to 28 includes “Cruising the St. John’s River,” “Affording the Boat of Your Dreams — Insurance, Finance and Survey,” “Fuel Management,” and “For Women Only! No-Stress Boat Handling.” A number of new and used trawlers will also be on display.

Two intense two-day Trawler Fest University “pre-events” start Jan. 24 and feature “Weather Forecasting for Mariners” with NOAA forecaster Lee Chesneau; and “Diesel Workshop” with Bob Smith, developer of the Ford Lehman diesel engines.

Numerous packages are available for each day of the event, ranging from $15 to $360 per day. The Trawler University courses cost $450 each. Other Trawler Fest locations this year will include Poulsbo, Wash., in June; Mystic, Conn., and Manitowoc, Wis., in August; and Solomons, Md., in September. Pre-registration is recommended.
