Seminars at the June 26-29 event cover Great Loop cruising and boat-buying tips
Trawler Fest, the notable cruising-under-power event produced by PassageMaker Magazine, is returning to Greenport, N.Y.
The event, which offers a boat show, education and community fun, takes place June 26 to 29 at Mitchell Park Marina. Exhibiting companies will set up on the lawn overlooking ocean-going powerboats of all sizes on display in the marina.
“We are delighted to be returning to Greenport for the second year, after a successful ’08 seminar series and Trawler Fest boat show,” says Rob Dorfmeyer, publisher and general manager of PassageMaker, which is based in Annapolis, Md. “It’s a terrific opportunity for the cruising-under-power [community] to come together, to meet other boaters who enjoy cruising, to learn from experts about all the facets of coastal and offshore experiences, and to understand the realities of living aboard — all while seeing the latest in boats and gear to make their cruising more enjoyable.”
Located on the North Fork of Long Island, Greenport is accessible by boat, car or plane and is just a short trip from the Hamptons; Sag Harbor, N.Y.; Newport, R.I.; and Block Island, R.I. The small maritime village has a variety of gift shops and restaurants, an antique carousel in Mitchell Park, and an art deco theatre, which will accommodate 90-minute seminars throughout the event, according to organizers.

More than 50 companies will have displays in the water, and more than 25 companies will be represented on the Mitchell Park lawn. Unlike crowded and busy national boat shows, companies at Trawler Fest can give their full attention to interested attendees, according to the organizers.
Trawler Fest is also a celebration of the cruising-under-power lifestyle, and attracts veterans as well as those looking to get into cruising, according to organizers. Attendees gather each evening to share experiences and advice over cocktails and dinner. Ticket options include a three-day package, a seminar package, or general admission to view the exhibits.
There will also be a Trawler Fest event Oct. 2-4 in Solomons, Md.
