Tropical Storm Isaac picks up steam

Tropical Storm Isaac’s predicted path has moved more west than previously predicted and is expected to deliver whatever punch it has to Florida on Monday.

Isaac was moving west-northwest at 15 mph and is about 200 miles south to southeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Isaac has winds of 40 mph, south of Puerto Rico, as of the 2 p.m. Thursday update by the National Hurricane Center.

The good news is that Isaac’s center is poorly organized, but after the storm passes over Hispaniola and Cuba, it is expected to weaken, and then restrengthen over the Gulf of Mexico.

Meanwhile Florida Gov. Rick Scott says Republican Party officials will decide whether or not to cancel or delay the upcoming national convention due to the threat from Tropical Storm Isaac. Hurricane center forecasts call for Isaac to be on the doorstep of the GOP convention in Tampa at the time that primetime television commences Monday.
