Two nearby capsizes, no life jackets

Two New York boaters were left clinging to their overturned vessels after each capsized within two hours of each other Wednesday in the waters just south of Moriches Inlet.

Although initial reports indicated that only one vessel had capsized at around 1 p.m., the Coast Guard later reported that a second distress call was received at approximately 2:45 p.m.

A small craft advisory had been issued on Wednesday and the waters near the inlet, which connects Moriches Bay with the Atlantic Ocean, were particularly difficult to navigate.

Neither boater suffered life-threatening injuries, according to authorities, but neither was wearing a life jacket.
