Two stranded anglers have luck on their side

They were just two dedicated Florida anglers trying to take advantage of the last day of grouper season, hoping to land a prized meal for the Super Bowl. Then their boat swamped and capsized on Tuesday.

They had life vests, but no communication or signaling device on board.

As luck would have it, the Coast Guard cutter Diamondback was passing through while it was in transit to drydock.
The two men were spotted sitting on the hull of their submerged vessel frantically waving their arms 1,800 yards away by watchstanders aboard the cutter.

The cutter Diamondback launched their small-boat crew who took the men off the submerged vessel and brought them aboard the cutter, then transferred them to shore without injuries.
