‘Very well-prepared’ sailors end up on the rocks

A trio of Kiwis sailing a 40-foot yacht outfitted with GPS, EPIRB, VHF radio, ditch bag and two life rafts still ended up on the rocks while sailing at night near the mouth of a New Zealand bay.

A local land owner who helped with the near-shore rescue told the local press that the sailors said they were using a GPS and thought they were in the middle of the bay, "but unfortunately, they were not, and they hit the rocks.”
