A Coast Guard crew rescued five people and a dog from Auburn Township, Ohio, after their recreational vessel sank Tuesday in Lake Erie about six miles north of Geneva-On-The-Lake, Ohio.

The mariners used the 25-foot vessel’s on-board VHF radio to call for help about 1 p.m., after the boat reportedly became swamped and those aboard realized the bilge pumps would not be able to keep up with the flooding. Shortly after making the distress call, their radio stopped working.
