BASE jumping is an activity in which thrill-seekers use a parachute to jump from fixed objects. BASE is an acronym for the categories of fixed objects from which one can jump: building, antenna, span, and earth.
Austrian skydiver Marco Waltenspiel recently came up with his own twist on BASE jumping: leaping from the top of a 138-foot mast.
He scaled the mast of a sailing yacht in St. Tropez and timed his jump to avoid the rigging.
“The feeling of free fall, and in addition to being above the sea, is simply indescribable. If the opportunity presents itself, I would love to jump from a freighter!” Waltenspiel says on the Red Bull website.
