There aren’t a lot of builders that are willing to capsize a new yacht, but Dutch company Elling had a point to make.
On March 29, at the Neptune Marine yard in Holland, a 49-foot Elling E4 — fully outfitted with a Scandinavian customer’s chosen options and unmodified in any way for the event — was given a 360-degree rollover test, which it passed. You can watch it here.
The semidisplacement Ellings — the builder also offers the 45-foot E3 — aren’t widely known in the United States, but the company is eager to reach more customers here. In 2008, three E4s crossed the Atlantic in a 16-day, 2,600-nautical-mile, non-stop voyage that also proved their mettle.
