There has been plenty of grumbling about the endless winter a good portion of the United States has endured, but you’ll hear no complaints from the iceboating tribe.
This has been a banner winter for iceboaters, including the return after a decade to iceboating on New York’s Hudson River.
“It’s nirvana,” one enthusiast told NBC News during a recent gathering in Dutchess County, about 90 miles north of Manhattan.
The occasion also marked the revival of an historic rivalry between two century-old iceboats: Rocket and Jack Frost. Rocket has been meticulously restored and was sailed for the first time in 100 years.
Iceboating days may be numbered as spring approaches, but this winter will certainly be memorable for those who sail on hard water.
