The setting: Force 9 winds and 13-foot seas about 8 miles southeast of Stornoway, a fishing village on the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.
The scene: A fishing boat is caught in the gale and starts to take on water. The crew of three radios for help, and a crew from the Royal National Lifeboat Institute, Britain’s volunteer coast guard, is dispatched.
As the video shows, the fishing crew manages to cut the gear away when the RNLI arrives. The vessel’s pumps were able to cope with the incoming water, and the boat was able to return to Stornoway with an escort under its own power, according to a report by The Stornoway Gazette.
