The boats in the Top Alcohol Flatbottom class are known as the “funny cars” of drag boat racing, reaching speeds north of 175 mph.
And if they crash at those speeds, it’s usually in dramatic fashion.
We found this video from the Lucas Oil Drag Boat World Finals last May on a lake in Irvine, Calif.
Dan Rodgers said everything felt good aboard his boat The Problem Child at the start of an elimination race.
“It was haulin’, felt really good in the seat,” he said. “The next thing, I’m looking at sky and then water, then sky, then water, waitin’ for it to all stop.”
The rescue team was assisting him in a matter of seconds.
Listen to Rogers’ full summary of the crash — and don’t blink.
