Anything can happen offshore, and trouble is almost always unexpected.
A charter fishing day on the water off San Diego turned into a Coast Guard medevac on Saturday when one of the passengers was cut down by pain, possibly from kidney stones.
The captain and crew of the 32-foot boat Intimidator were 62 miles west of their home port of Dana Harbor when the medical emergency flared up. Thankfully, an aircrew aboard a Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was up to the task.
The Coast Guard hoisted the 30-year-old man to the helicopter and ferried him to shore. He was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego for further treatment.
