Retrieving a boat being swept across a bar on a raging river is a questionable decision, but a trio of Kiwis in a small inflatable make it look easy in this video.
The 60-mile Whakatane River on New Zealand’s North Island empties into the Bay of Plenty and the Pacific. The bar at the mouth is considered challenging in the best conditions but downright treacherous after a storm.
That seems to be the case as the rain-swollen river carries an unmanned sportfishing boat over the bar and into the bay.
As breaking surf batters the boat, three men in a small inflatable race into the fray with one goal in mind: to save her!
