BBC television host Steve Leonard and Arctic expert Jason Roberts were filming an episode about polar bears for the documentary series “Incredible Journeys” when they had a very close call.
Their open boat was traveling just beneath a 50-meter ridge of glacier as pieces of ice fell from its face. Moments after they moved off slightly, a giant boulder of glacier thunderously calved, and Roberts had the presence of mind to gun it.
The video shows shards of ice flying through the air and a big swell chasing the boat. It’s what we call a narrow escape and the men seemed to get a chuckle out of it.
