Winter months are quiet on the rivers and coastal waters of the northeastern United States. All but the heartiest of recreational boaters are on the hard, leaving the icy aquatic to commercial mariners.

The year-old, 90-foot Sassafras Class tug is named Fells Point and hails out of Baltimore. She is powered by twin Caterpillar 3512 diesel engines rated at 1,500 hp each, turning twin 87-inch, four-bladed propellers.
