VIDEO: One was saved

The life-and-death drama of desperate migrants fleeing their homelands for a better life in Europe is inescapable in the news, but this powerful clip puts a human face on the crisis.

A rescuer from the Turkish coastguard, wearing a Go-Pro on his helmet, is lowered into the Aegean Sea and races to the aid of a lone migrant clinging to the bow tip of a rapidly sinking boat.

Aboard the boat were 34 people traveling to the Greek island of Lesbos. Twenty-seven of them died and six were reported missing in the Feb. 8 incident, according to a report by Britain’s The Daily Mail.

The man on the bow, however, was hoisted to safety.
