Capt. Dennis Baxter runs the 53-foot charter fishing boat New Captain Pete out of Half Moon Bay in Northern California.
On the side, he runs professional surfers about two miles offshore so they can do battle with the legendary Mavericks surf break. An invitation-only contest is held there most winters, when the really big waves roll in.
The seasoned captain recently had his boat turned around in the surf, launching a surfer as the boat rolled.
No one was injured and the New Captain Pete fared just fine.
According to an Instagram posting, pro surfer Mark Healey said he actually jumped from the boat. Healey, who goes by the name DonkeyShow, said he can laugh about the incident now, but "we were all pretty puckered up at the time."
